The Santiago Trail

In recent years the number of walkers and cyclists has increased spectacularly on the St. James’s Way (or Santiago Trail).

The historical pilgrim’s route has become the most well used GR (Gran Route) in Europe and is travelled for many different reasons: the classical five week pilgrimage, doing sections every year by bicycle or simply selecting the best known stages.

We want to help you to live and experience the Trail in all its charm and significance:

The great variety of its landscapes and climates. From the Pyrenees to the vineyards of Navarra and La Rioja, from the “Meseta” and the solitary Montes de León, to the idyllic hilly landscapes of Galicia.

The great historical heritage that accompanies us along the way: countless hermitages and village churches, the Romanesque jewels of Eunate and San Martín, the monasteries of Roncesvalles, San Millán, Silos and Samos, without forgetting the great cathedrals of Burgos, León and Santiago.

Its great variety of monumental towns and cities, like Pamplona, Logroño, Nájera, Burgos, Carrión, Sahagún, León, Astorga and Santiago as well as other charming little villages and towns.

Its spiritual aspect and its charm as a meeting point, the typical bars and inns, as well as the “technical” aspect of a network of forest tracks, always well indicated and at times specifically surfaced paths.

Our hotels adapt their services to the walker and cyclist, guaranteeing all the comfort and rest that we could wish for after hard daily stages.

We would like to become an alternative and a supplement to those who do not wish to stay in hostels every night.

Our guarantees and offers are:

The best inns and hotels in their category, from two stars upwards, with individual, double and triple rooms with shower or bath.

We offer the typical cuisine of the Trail and the pilgrim’s menu. A (hearty) breakfast from 7 o’clock in the morning.

Our lodgings are situated at strategic points, normally 50kms or less from each other, in other words, one stage by bicycle and two on foot.

The activhotels Xacobeo have space for drying equipment (boots, rucksacks, etc.) and to store bicycles.

The activhotels Xacobeo organise luggage and rucksack transport if requested, as well as pick-up and transfer to previous and later stages (by taxi or public transport). In this way, you can do two or three stages on foot from the same lodging.

We offer a route on foot (guided and unguided) of two weeks’ duration in order for you to enjoy the most well-known and beautiful stages of the Trail.

Through our operator, we can design and organise programmes “a la carte” along the length of the Trail, either on foot or by bicycle, with our without a guide. We reserve lodging from 5 nights and over.
